Time Trialing
TIME TRIALS 7th AUGUST
The weather for today’s event was not so calm. There was a lot of swell which made the boats as they passed us at the Science mark either slow down or go a little faster. We did notice, but it is all part of the fun and the social part of these power events would have to be the best in the club.
As it was the Commodores Trophy event, Gerry Pietersen our Commodore presented the awards to the competitors. With 13 boats competing Susanne Browne of (Send out Cards) also assisted as our wonderful sponsor for the event. Twelve volunteers also received a bottle of wine for their help. At every event raffle tickets are given out and drawn with the volunteer winners receiving a bottle of wine.
Lynn & Jay were still away and so 13 volunteers made a large variety of Casseroles. With the rice and bread we again had a really good feed. Over the last two weeks many recipes have now been exchanged.
If you know someone that would like to have a great Saturday afternoon making new friends or would like to participate, please just call the club office for information on Time Trialling.
I will see you all again at our next event on Saturday 21st August.

TIME TRIALS 24th JULY
We have been very lucky this season with near perfect weather. There were 12 boats racing with 27 competitors trying for their best times.
As Lynn & Jay had gone to Bali, it was suggested that we had a Soup afternoon and 10 different varieties were made by volunteers. As Cheese toast was also made, there were not many of us that had to go home to cook a meal.
With a total of 41 people, time trialling and volunteers, we again had an excellent event. Thanks again go to Vi and John Palmer the sponsors for this event.

TIME TRIALS 17th JULY
Well after a very heavy shower of rain, we left the club to go on our 5th event that was sponsored by Rob Lowry of Hydraulink Fluid Connectors.
Once again our Captain (no name) left his crew to await his return whilst he went home to get his Clears. Luckily we did not need these, and we set off for our marker buoy.
With 10 boats powering up the estuary and the sun now shining, 20 crew and 38 of us again had a really good day.
Then back to the club for a very entertaining afternoon with Des McLean and John Palmer giving a short Skit on the Battle of Trafalgar in 2010. This resulted in a great deal of laughter, and I believe will be repeated.
Again Lynn and her team had organised hot and cold finger food for us all.
Our next event will be on Saturday 24th July subject to the weather and so until then, I will sign of.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Regular use of a power boat throughout winter ensures that the batteries, engine and hull will be in perfect condition for all the family to enjoy the pleasures of cruising in summertime.
Time trialling is now in its 9th season at MOFSC. All courses start at the first spit post past the old bridge and then run on the inland water of the estuary out to Science platform and return through the estuary to finish where the event started. Any craft capable of navigating under engine power at a speed between 5 and 15 knots may participate.
Other Club members can be involved in time trialling as volunteers to help with the running of the events. All tasks are simple. Checkpoints are at spit posts in the Estuary with some checkpoint crews working from land whilst others are out on the water. Each team comprises a Sighter, a Timekeeper and a Recorder.
Events are held on alternate Saturdays with all nine being sponsored. Thus free nibbles are supplied to all before results are announced whilst skippers and navigators of the first six boats, on handicap, in each of the two fleets receive prizes as well as the wooden spooners. There is also a free raffle for volunteers with eight prizes.
We wish to thank our sponsors for Time Trials, including Hind's Sand Supplies - courtesy of Raymond Hind. Hinds Sand Supplies is one of the first sponsor's for these events. Raymond is a volunteer who takes his boat out to act as a checkpoint for one of the mark's.
The sponsor for Event 2 is Scanlan Surveys, courtesy of Bill Scanlan. Bill and his wife Sue are regular competitors and Bill says he is pleased to be able to support the fun times that everyone has both on the water and back at the club. They also look forward to seeing if they have improved over their previous results.
