MOFSC Wins CLUBS WA
The Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club Inc. (MOFSC) took out the prestigious “Outstanding Community Service – Regional” Award at the Clubs WA Awards for Excellence presentation dinner held at the Burswood Entertainment Complex Grand Ballroom on Sunday, 20th April 2008.

The MOFSC won the award for the 2007 Youth Maritime Program, a program aimed at providing life skills, communication, crime reduction, self esteem, and alternative recreation and employment opportunities to young people by teaching them fishing and marine skills.
The program is run in conjunction with Challenger TAFE Fremantle Maritime Training Centre, with course graduates receiving a TAFE accredited qualification. The graduates receive a Certificate I in Fishing Operations, a Restricted Skippers Ticket and a Senior First Aid Certificate.
The program has been extremely successful with a graduation success rate of over 80%. The program was first run in May 2003, and the Club is about to embark on its 12 program on the 28th April 2008.
MOFSC Commodore Gerry Pietersen was very proud to accept the award on behalf of the Club. “This award recognizes the fantastic efforts put into this program by Rear Commodore Fishing Des McLean, and his group of dedicated volunteers who provide this valuable program and opportunity to the youth of Mandurah” Commodore Pietersen said. “I would personally like to thank Des McLean for all his hard work in getting this program up and running, and look forward to our next course which commences in April 2008. This course is all about putting something back into the local community, and providing alternative opportunities and pathways for young people in Mandurah and surrounding areas”.
Rear Commodore Fishing Des McLean couldn’t contain his excitement when the MOFSC was announced as the winner, where he was heard to exclaim “You Bloody Beauty”.
The MOFSC was also a finalist “Best Club Event – Regional” for the 2007 Fishing Classic.
